Bodkin Wines was founded by Chris Christensen, an Iowa native, in 2011. His passion for aromatic wines and winemaking led him to create America’s first Sauvignon Blanc with bubbles. In 2013, Andrew Chambers, an Oregon native, joined the brand and they purchased 24 tons and made 1,100 cases of their award-winning Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc. Since that time, Bodkin Wines has produced over 15 varietals of wine, eleven of which were scored at 90 points or higher by Wine Enthusiast. They are consistently growing, year after year, but are determined to keep their presence small and unique. Bodkin Wines is still 100% owned by both Chris and Andrew, two guys living and working hard in Sonoma County.
Light and approachable, this high-flavor, low-alcohol wine is perfect to drink all day long and into the party hour. Lemon-lime and grapefruit with accents of tangerines and nectarine dominate the flavors and aromas. This wine pairs well with live music, sunny days and fresh cuisine- basically, the best things in life! We call that winning and to the victor go the spoils. Grip and sip! Pairs well with well with live music, sunny days, fresh cuisine, cool dudes and hot babes— so it pairs well with pretty much the best things in life.
This wine was fermented and aged sur-lie for 3 months in stainless drums prior to bottling on 12/13/2018. 5% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Verdelho were blended to enhance the aromatics and add harmony to the finish. This wine is named homophonically in honor of my brother's second daughter Oakliss Eve - born the day the grapes were harvested...it was too easy...I couldn't resist a good-bad pun.
Fermented in a stainless steel tank at 55f using a yeast cultivar from its native Portugal. The wine was kept on its fermentation lees for 3 months to build mouthfeel and racked only 1 time prior to bottling on 12/13/2018.
"Hotspur Cuvée" What's more fun than bubbles? Pink bubbles! Not only is the color of the wine pleasing to the eye; it's easy drinking and quaffable. The aromas of berries and citrus blossoms on the nose transfer to flavors the pallet, where you'll find them along with the additional accents of fresh baked brioche and ruby red grapefruit. For what it's worth, we really enjoy this wine and may even sell a few bottles before we drink them all...Maybe... 55% Zinfandel, 35% Syrah, 3% Albariño, 3% Chenin Blanc, 4% Sauvignon Blanc.
"The Fearless" The lion's share of the grapes coming from the Suisun Valley in Soloano County (A southeast neighbor of Napa). In 2018 the warm days and the cooling effects of the Bay at night caused the grapes to ripen evenly and maintain their acid, making them perfect for sparkling wine. The focused acidity, lively bubbles and subtle varietal expression of the grapes all add up to make a reserved and delicate yet lively wine. The low dosage of 2.5g/L really lets the wine speak for itself without the interference of cloying sugar. Made largely of Burgundian varieties and named after John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy (1371-1419). The guy was pretty much the honey badger of the 15th C. France...look him up...
Bodkin Wines is proud to release the fourth cuvée of California’s first Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc ™. This unique and stylish twist on Sauvignon Blanc has a core of racy crispness driven by lively acidity, accented with lemon-lime aromas (no cat grass — no worries) and citrus-passion fruit flavors. The pronounced citrus tones team with a note of toasted hazelnuts to accent the enchantingly plush mouth feel of the wine. Pair this wine with food…or not…it works great by itself!
"In for a Penny, In for a Pound" A blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. On the nose wine shows its Petite Sirah parentage with explosive aromas of blueberry and baker's chocolate. On the palate the dark berry dominance continue highlighted by bright acidity (In a red wine - I know, don't be scared, it's how we do things at Bodkin) and supported by sweet vanilla and toffee flavors which extend well into the finish and continue on into the next sip. Even after 16 months in barrel this wine is still on its way up - if you're looking to age it longer - good on ya - if you're looking to drink it now - then consider decanting it for 30-45min prior to serving.
This the winemaker's favorite wine. Hands down. Notes of honey, orange blossom, candied hazelnuts and silage (yes, decomposing hay - I said it I meant it - Trust me it totally works in the context of this wine) Varieties- Sauvignon Blanc100% Alcohol- 13.0% RD- 13.0% No Sulfur Added! WooWhoo!
